Google recently introduced a redesign to the Google+ social media platform. Google’s focus was to further differentiate Google+ as a social platform from Google Maps as a local listings and reviews platform.
However, the new design meant businesses could no longer display Google reviews on Google+.
The removal of reviews from the Google+ platform has caused a disruption in our clients’ abilities to:
- Ask customers to share their reviews (collected via Review Generation) on Google.
- Navigate to and manage Google reviews from the PowerSuite.
Over the next few weeks, Google Maps will replace Google Plus Local under the Search Engines section of the Listings tab within Reputation Management, as seen below.
PowerSuite will automatically find clients’ Google Maps listings if we previously found their Google+ profile.
Around the same time we rebrand the Google Plus Local listing source, we will re-implement Google+ under the Social Sites section of the Listings tab
We will be offering monitoring on both Google+ and Google Maps sources for a good reason—there’s a small but distinct difference between the two listings. Even through most clients can create their own Google Map listing from Google MyBusiness, But sometimes Google automatically creates Google Maps listings by grabbing location data from major data providers.
This automated process doesn’t actually create a Google+ profile. Clients need to be aware this may be happening, because it’s critical to be present on all Google entities. By highlighting the difference between Google+ and Google Maps, Reputation Management provides your clients with the reports that enable them to do exactly that.
Along with the new Google Maps listing source, Google Maps will become the branding for all things customer reviews. In other words, Google, as it relates to customer reviews, will now be called “Google Maps”. This includes the brand names and logos in the Reviews tab of Reputation Management Suite.
These updates will bring the Powersuite platform back in line with Google’s new focus. Plus, this development is bringing us one step closer to offering Google My Business in Profile Sync, where your clients will be able to instantly sync their location data to Google Maps, Google Search and Google+ profiles.
